The Anti-Snacking Diet

by Justin Qualler on March 5, 2009

doughnut2You know how difficult it is to resist the lure of fresh donuts when that smell wafts its way into your cubicle. Or when the coworkers walks by smiling with an offering of candies or another sugary treat.

I’ve gotten sick to my stomach, on occasion, from over indulging thanks to someone’s generosity. But it hasn’t happened lately and I can thank my fiance’s cat for that.

That poor thing, it can only eat when one of us humans fill her bowl.

One morning I was meditating about restraint. It’s such a difficult thing to restrain oneself, especially when we’re always being convinced to lavish ourselves in one way or the other.

But that morning I decided to only feed once while at work. No snacks. No vending machine runs. No muffins with chocolate chips. Nothing. And yes, I said feed, not eat.

By about 3 o’clock I was twitching in my chair craving something. Anything! But I persisted and now it seems natural. Like our cat, I only at a prescribed time while at work.

Now when the sweets come around, for some reason, it’s a lot easier to reject them. Not because I don’t want them, but because its outside my feeding time. What tricks have you done to avoid the sit and sugar trap in the office?
