One of the questions I get is what type of workouts to do.
Hands down my answer is almost always the same. Use a kettlebell. The kettlebell is just a great tool that can give quick workouts and superior results. No knocks against the barbell, but here’s the thing.
When does it end? With the barbell, people are tempted to stack on the weights and get caught up in this idea that you have to move big weights to be a man. I’m not buying it.
The other thing with the barbell is it doesn’t compel the body coordination that the kettlebell does. The kettlebell really teaches you to coordinate your body and focus.
To paraphrase Bruce Lee: “A barbell punch is a like an iron bar. Whack! A kettlebell punch is like an iron bar with a ball attached to the end and it goes wang, and it hurts inside.”
So, what do you do with this kettlebell? Here’s a great workout, inspired by no less than Alan Calvert of Super Strength fame.
- Swings (warm up) ~50 reps
- Presses – 2-3 sets of 6-8 reps
- Windmills – 2-3 sets of 5 reps
- Turkish Get Ups – 2-3 sets of 2-3 reps or reps for time (like 5 minutes)
- Swings (for endurance)
On short rest this workout goes fast and hits your whole body and develops a ton of strength all along the spine.
I got this one done in about 20 minutes before leaving to pick up my kids.
I describe it more in this YouTube Video.
Give it a watch and if you like it, do me a favor and subscribe and click that bell.
