Why it’s important to like your exercise

Yesterday I filmed a video about the “case against exercise”. I’ll put that below.

Thing is…well the thing is simple. William Muldoon put it brilliantly. “We know what we ought to do, we just don’t do it.”

I take solace in the fact that he was a coffee drinker. But he had ONE PER DAY. I have two. And now you see the weakness pouring out.

Exercise is not meant to be drudgery. I’ve learned this from my kids. They are playing. And then I try to play but I’m thinking exercise.

Which is boring old dad stuff.

Forget about it.

Recently, I rediscovered my love for biking. My dad turned me on to it. In fact, I’m riding his old bike.

Just Thursday some new tires came in and these are gonna change my off road game completely.

Here’s the thing.

Jogging bores me (I do it, but I don’t enjoy it) but biking thrills me!

So that’s a key.

There are some times when you have to do things you don’t like.

But why struggle with things? And the key is to just do something. So find productive stuff that you love as much as you can.

All right.

Just one more thing, we’re gonna come back to fundamentals.

Just consider the fundamentals. Air. Water. Earth. Space. Fire.

A problem with modern culture is always looking for shortcuts. Ironically, it’s in the shortcuts that we make things more complex.

Hey, let’s make all our stuff in China, ship all the inputs there (and source some locally, of course), pay them crap wages, and then ship it back!

1 year: You’re promoted!

10 years: You’re fired! (Oh, wait, you’ve left the company and done the same “trick” somewhere else…)

The fundamentals are lasting and enduring. The tricks and hacks are one trick ponies that aren’t enduring.

We’re after consistent, daily progress.

Got that?

Consistent, daily progress.

All right. Speaking of that, in this video below I share a bit of philosophy and also give three “exercises” that you can do.

Two of these exercises are ones that I just throw into my morning routine. They slip right in and fit like a glove.

The third one (spoiler alert: the pull up) – well, that one I like to train occasionally.

I’ll tell ya one interesting thing. It’s been about a year since I’ve trained this exercise… But I’ve been doing the Jowett stuff.

I have no real performance loss whatsoever and in fact in that video I held the top position of a one arm chin.

The Jowett course is phenomenal.

Well, check out the video and see ya back here some other time.

P.S. An outdoor, active life…no weights, just outdoor and active…it’s really all you need. It’s salubrious. Look that one up if you don’t know it.
